Many fall into the trap thinking they can simply use the same text that's printed on thier brochures to create an effective mind blowing website. It will almost certainly not be enough. There are techniques to writing good contentual copy for the web, and here are a few tips from Superweb to help get you headed in the right direction:
» Be as concise as you can when possible. In most cases if you can write clear, simple, and punchy sentences being as ruthless about editing your copy down to a minimum. As long as you cover everything necessary on the chosen topic subject your on the right track as search engines love content.
» Aim to group all related content into paragraphs breaking up your webpage by a series of sub headings.
» Do not forget about the ‘Safe-Area’ which is visible in all browsers when I user visits your webpage. Put your most important points above in the safe-area, and if you can keep text short enough so that scrolling is not necessary.
» Include frequent links in your content to other relevant WebPages in your site – not all web users read your site like a book, okay some do but not all so its best to cater for both audiences. Users that scan pages or ‘scanners’ as we call them like to pursue a thread of content and this can mean page hopping until they find exactly what they are looking for.
